Volunteers of all ages are needed at PAL, and high school students can receive community service credit, college students can receive internship credit and others can gain the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference in the life of a child. Volunteering at PAL is a unique and individual experience, and as a volunteer you can give one hour per year up to 2080! You can volunteer on a regular schedule such as: Every day after-school, drop by the PAL Youth Center to show youth how to lift weights properly or coach a youth football team; Twice per week, lead a Girls Self Esteem group by bringing in guest speakers and arranging field trips; Every Tuesday afternoon volunteer to help youth with homework in the PAL Learning Center at the PAL Youth Center; Every other Friday evening coach basketball in the gym; Once per month volunteer to bring snacks in and help youth with making creative crafts in the art room.
You can volunteer for special projects such as: Sit on a fundraising committee to help get items donated for the annual auction; Write a grant; Prepare and help print a quarterly newsletter; Write an organizational business plan; Barbecue burgers and garden burgers at annual events like Role Model Day in August and Spring Break closing events; Be a chaperone for field trips such as sledding or horseback riding.
You can receive college credit for volunteering too – if you pre-arrange it with your school and set clear goals and objectives. |
